Ford is set to ditch the model name "Fiesta" in 2008 when it launches a new car to fill this traditional slot. Fiestas have been made for over 30 years and have proved extremely popular as proved by the 11 million models that have been sold.

Ford is researching new names but short-listed so far are Genesis, Isis and Phoenix. All three names have been registered in case one of them is chosen.

It is understood that the new model will be aimed at the younger person. Launch date is expected to be 2008.
