New car buyers nowadays tend to opt for as many hi-tech gadgets and toys as possible but, before you go overboard, have a think about what you may be letting yourself in for. Getting use out of them may make your journey a more hazardous experience.

Even the must-have satellite navigation system can cause you to take your eyes off the road at crucial times when junctions or lane changes may be needed. It can be easy to get distracted by the system and not see that your required path is blocked. Some drivers consider the voice of the navigation service to be the height of annoyance. An annoyed driver is not a safe driver.

Mobile phone usage is still a big distraction to drivers, even those using hands-free kits. How can you give your driving your full attention if you are engaged in conversation? If someone contacts you whilst you're out driving then it's usually not a trivial matter. A distracted driver is not a safe driver.

A US study reveals that 80% of accidents are caused by some form of driver inattention. Do you really want to have your attention distracted by yet more toys in your new car?

Here are some of the latest toys that could give you trouble -
