CAR NEWS - Jan 2007 UK Road Congestion Angers Company Car Drivers Accorsing to anRAC survey, company car drivers in the UK are spending inordinate amounts of time sitting in traffic jams. Their statistics reveal an average of 1-2 hours a week of traffic jams, or no less than 11 days a week spent waiting for congestion to clear.
A scarcely-credible but very worrying statistic from the survey is that 10% of company car drivers have admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. If true, it means that the UK roads are extremely hazardous places to be give that so many other motorists are driving around feeling tired at certain times to the point where they could fall asleep at the whell.
Rising congestion means less opportunity to make use of car extras such as cruise control where, generally, an open road is needed. Cruise control could also be a contributory factor in the falling-asleep scenarios where the driver does not even have to use his accelerator pedal.
