CAR NEWS - Jan 2007
FALL IN NEW CAR REGISTRATIONS IN THE UK New car sales showed a drop of nearly 15% in December 2006 compared to the same month a year earlier - source Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders. Diesel cars now make up nearly 40% of the cars on British roads whilst petrol car registrations continue to fall. With gas-guzzlers tipped to feel the wrath of the taxman even more, UK consumers seem intent on economising and are becoming more particular with
their choices of vehicles. Interest rates and mounting debts are on many people's minds resulting in caution when it comes to splashing out on a new car.
Middle East tensions have also seen soaring fuel prices during 2006 with diesel reaching £1.00 a litre (almost $2 per litre). Petrol has also seen around the 95 pence per litre price tag. Despite the recent fall-backs to around 87 pence per litre for petrol, the fragility of the international oil supply situation has caused many new car buyers to be nervous. Most popular car in the UK continues to be the Ford Focus. ![]() Gap Insurance Quote |
